During this year, the Greater Nottingham Clinical Commissioning Groups undertook clinically-led reviews on a set of services that fall outside of the National tariff payment mechanism.
The reviews were initiated because, whilst providing high quality care, closer to home, that delivers the best outcomes for patients remains our priority, we also need to ensure that we are getting the very best value for money when commissioning publicly funded health services.
As part of this ongoing work, we have identified some services currently delivered by Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) that can be delivered in a community setting, closer to patients’ homes and provide better value to the local NHS. Moving services into the community will also provide much needed capacity within our hospitals.
Elements of services that need to be delivered in a hospital setting, will continue to be delivered there.
Dr James Hopkinson, Clinical Lead at NHS Nottingham North and East CCG, says: “We are committed to improving services through an integrated approach to patient care across South Nottinghamshire. We have re-designed some service specifications to support a shift of non-acute services into community settings, to reduce cost and improve access for patients.
“With mounting financial pressures, we are looking at new ways of delivering health and social care services that are more cost effective and bring care closer to people’s homes. This will mean that, in line with the recently published Sustainability and Transformation Plan for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, more services will move out of hospital and into community settings. This will provide more convenient access for patients and service users as well as better value for public money.
“We’d like to reassure local people that this isn’t a case of removing services but looking at the ways in which they can be delivered more effectively and efficiently.”
These are the services which we propose will transfer into a community setting:
